BWC Awards Woolace Electric with 2nd Safety Grant in 2018

In September of 2018, Woolace Electric received approval from the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation (BWC) for a Safety Intervention Grant application to purchase equipment designed to extract and contain crystalline silica dust. The equipment has been purchased with Ohio BWC providing $3 for every $1 spent.

Items purchased for this safety intervention include DeWalt HEPA vacuums, DeWalt Dust Extractors for use with larger rotary hammer drills.   Also included are Hilti HEPA Dust box attachments for cordless slotted-drive-system (SDS) rotary hammer drills.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), About 2.3 million men and women face exposure to respirable crystalline silica in their workplaces, including two million construction workers who drill and cut silica-containing materials such as concrete and stone, and 300,000 workers in operations such as brick manufacturing, foundries and hydraulic fracturing.  This intervention will significantly reduce or eliminate exposure to crystalline silica dust for our employees. It will also keep the work areas cleaner and healthier for the customer facilities.
